KAYAK is looking for a highly intelligent backend Senior Software Engineer who will be able to develop, create, and modify the computer applications that support the KAYAK platform ad network. As a Senior Software Engineer on the KAYAK Adtech team, you will bring your skills to build applications that our partners will use to create ad content, manage targeting and bids on their ads. You will also work with different data systems, write ETLs and gather data that will support building reports and dashboards that provide insights into how the ads perform and help our partners with improving the ROI of their ads. Your day to day will involve writing a lot of code from building APIs, designing databases, improving performance by solving scale problems in the application. The role presents a unique opportunity to work with a geographically distributed team and working with different teams across the organisation and company.

Responsibilities

• backend development of KAYAK ad network software applications, including ad targeting, bidding, content management, and other adjacent sub-systems;
• individual and team-based design and development of new features and products related to the KAYAK ad network;
• utilise and develop against several different types of data storage systems that support the KAYAK ad network, including but not limited to MySQL, memcache, Hive/Hadoop, Aserospike, Snowflake and Redis proprietary KAYAK storage systems;
• identification and resolution of complex software problems related to the KAYAK ad network;
• analysis and resolution of scalability issues in the KAYAK ad network software applications;
• be an active participant in the ongoing maintenance and improvement to existing ad network services and feature-sets.

Required Skills

• 5+ years Java experience, experience with Java web development a plus;
• Amazing programming fundamentals;
• Intermediate Java, experience with Java web development a plus;
• Working knowledge of SQL, Hive/Hadoop, Aerospike, Redis a plus;
• Some front end development experience is preferred, but not required.

• Someone who can handle a high volume of requests with frequent interruptions and prioritise their own work while taking infrastructure and business needs into account;
• Must have excellent technical communication skills.

Compensation

Senior Java Engineer’s salary consists of three parts:

Base part: when joining us early in your career your salary may start from 3260 EUR Bruto. Being more experienced, your base salary may be up to 6120 EUR Bruto for this position.

In addition:

• meaningful yearly bonuses approx 10 percent annual salary;
• Booking Holdings RSU (Restricted Stock Units) package, worth 20.000 USD (before taxes) with possibility to get it every year.

Salary range provided is not final and will be discussed during the process based on your skills and experience.
